Jacket - Made in the Philippines

Jacket - Made in the Philippines

I bought the materials here in Toronto, total around $60.00. The labor in the Philippines, is $40.00. We'll see how it fits when it gets here.

Philippine Network War starting in Canada with Toronto as battleground

Throwdown in Toronto
There is a Food Network TV show called “Bobby Flay Throwdown” where  star chef Bobby Flay challenges a chef, or restaurant owner that he can make a better delicacy that the chef or restaurant owner is famous for. Then, two judges decide which tastes better. Well, we have something similar to that her in summer. The two biggest Philippine networks will bring their biggest stars to date in competing festivals.

So far, GMA has announced Carla Abellana, Francheska Farr and Arnell Ignacio.
As of this writing, ABS has countered by announcing that they are bringing Billy Crawford, Kay Brosas, Vina Morales, Christian Bautista, Angeline Quinto, Bea Alonzo and John Lloyd Cruz.
By the looks of it, ABS seems to have the advantage. But it is still too early in the game. GMA just might be playing a waiting game.
GMA has partnered with Philippine Canadian Charitable Foundation and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce, Toronto for the Pinoy Fiesta festival which will be held in June.
ABS had partnered with Philippine Independence Day Council for the Kapamilya Mabuhay festival which willbe held in July.
When there was only one festival before, which was the Mabuhay, either network (whoever was the sponsor at that time) can bring whoever was  available from their stable of stars to the festival. It did not have to be an A-list star. Any showbiz actor or actress from the Philippines was good enough. With two festivals, the two networks will be fighting for attention. They need to attract more attention than the other because a lot more is at stake. GMA, a late-entrant to the international scene is trying to grab market share of the oveseas Filipinos for much-needed dollars.
In this case, let the Filipino comunity be the judge.

Jennifer Forever 3 Concert, Another Success

THE best is saved for last, as the adage goes, and this is how the very-well known singer acknowledged Toronto Concert Queen  Jenifer Camacho, concluded her Jenifer Forever Concert series last April 8, 2011 at the Capitol  Event Theatre in Toronto.
Showcasing spectacular performances, the Jenifer Forever 3 Concert astonished the audience with amazement. Her rendition of modern, pop and R&B genre with the vigorous dance steps tells the audience that indeed she deserves the admiration and title showered upon her.
“I’ve been around long enough in this community but it’s my first time to witness such a talent like Jenifer Camacho. I think she already reached her peak that’s why she is incomparable to anybody. She set the leverage really high,” says Cesar Maniebo, a follower of Jenifer.
With a year of intense preparation, Jenifer believes that this concert was a blast and indeed an appropriate way of closing the curtain for the series of her Forever concerts, the first being done in 2006, followed by the Jenifer Forever 2 in 2008.
“It’s worth the wait to end the series of my concerts. We really planned for this, it was challenging and I am happy that it turned out positive,” says Jenifer.
The singer herself admitted that the show came out the way she wanted it, the concept was executed very well by her chosen production staff.
The production numbers during the concert were superb, with Jenifer’s rendition of medley songs of known singers, such as Lady Gaga. Jenifer performed Lady Gaga’s songs with a very close resemblance of the original. She revived the songs of Selena, the Mexican American singer known as the “top Latin Singer of the 90s”.
She captured the heart of her Filipino fans with Tagalog songs of Philippine Megastar Sharon Cuneta, Pop Diva Kuh Ledesma, Joey Albert and Lani Misalucha, world-renowned Filipino singer. Like Misalucha, who can reach high notes, in whatever position she is, Jenifer proved her talent when she performed and reach high note while lying on her back on the stage.
“The concert was upbeat & full of energy! Enjoyed the music and it was a success! Great Job! Keep up the great work of producing wonderful music!” says M.J., who watched the concert.
“Congratulations Jen! It was a great show. I admire your tenacity for having worked so hard to produce a show of that scale, that makes me a proud Filipino,” adds another Arazona Laroza of Ara Concept.
Witnessing her performance was audience coming from the multicultural community of Toronto, besides her Filipino fans, during the Jenifer Forever 3 concert, she has gained supporters from diverse communities, attesting to her prowess in singing and dancing.
During the concert, Jenifer launched her second album, Jenifer Camacho “Reveals”.  Songs composed by Noel Garcia that are included in the album are Centuries, Burn it Down, Modern Day Romance, Poison, and Face to Face. For her fans she offered a $20-Glam Package that includes her CD, a souvenir T-shirt and a gift certificate of Mary Kay.
The show also displayed the talents of Filipino performers like , John Alix, Chris Fernandez a.k.a C-Stylez, Charlyn Marundan, Ashley Suva, Zeny Zagala a.k.a Lady Elvis, Ron Adea and  the Bucc N Flvr dance group that delighted the audience.
“The show was not possible without the support of my musical director, Daniel “Argyle’ Yap, my stage and creative director, Kim Hazen Belen, my back up vocals, Terry Elegino Barker, Nora Cuenco, Amsky Chan and Junior Miller along with my sponsors and media partners,” acknowledges Jenifer. “I would like to thank all the fans, supporters and staff and crew for all the efforts in this concert to make it worthy for everyone.”
Although the recent event is the seal of her concert series, it doesn’t mean Jenifer will stop performing. In fact, she will continue to be visible in various projects. She will be one of the judges for the Asian Canadian Talent Search, Sing for Your Heart on May 29, 2011 at Pacific Mall and later that evening she will be one of the judges for the Beauties of Asia contest at the Sheraton Parkway Hotel, Richmond Hill.
On June 3, 2011, she will perform at the Hold my Hands, a fund-raising charity event for the Japan calamity victims at Capitol Event Theatre, Toronto. Followed by a performance on June 12, 2011,  for the Philippine Independence Day celebration at Nathan Philip Square and at Rose Theatre in Brampton later in the afternoon.
Besides all her appearances, Jenifer, will also be endorsing various products and services such as Estilo Royale and La Vida Clinic Medical Spa among others.
Meanwhile, she was also tapped by Bb. Pilipinas Pageant as a talent coordinator and vocal coach trainer for the Talent Portion. The pageant will be held on July 18, 2010 at TICC.  Jenifer will be the celebrity judge for the 2011 Ms. Philippines of the World, to be held at Delta Chelsea Hotel, Toronto on August 13, 2011.
For September this year, in celebration of her birthday, a sit-down dinner concert is currently in the planning stage. While on vacation in Europe this summer, she will also finalize arrangements for possible concerts in the continent.
Without a doubt, Jenifer Camacho is soaring high, unstoppable, conquering not just the Filipino community but spreading her wings as far as she can with confidence and vigour.

Postcards from far away

Debra Rughoo wrote an article in the Toronto Star about postcards. it seems nobody sends them anymore. In the age of facebook, twitter, cellphones with cameras, nobody bothers to buy one, write, walk to the post office and mail them back anymore. They figured that they will be back home before the postcards arrive to reach their friends anymore, which is true.

Nowadays, nearly everyone posts it on their facebook or sends them thourgh their cellphone. In an age when everyobdy wants anything fast, it seems nobody wants to wait for a postcard by mail anymore.

Well, nearly everybody.

Just like the writer, I am happy to receive the occasional letter from  family and friends. Nowadays, the only letters we receive are invitation to a wedding, a briday or baby shower. I can do wihtout the letters from the cable or telephone company.

However, the advantage of posting your travels in facebook is that friends from your past who happens to live in the city you happen to be visiting can get in touch with you. "Hey, I live here, give me a call." You'll have an unplanned, spontaneous and joyful reunion.

But postcards can be kept. Messages through the web need to be deleted when space becomes scarce on the computer.
